So that now I can be a voice for those teachers who are dealing with those same things and they cant leave. You know, I didnt do it for money. Bri: I hope that it will bring light to the horrors that teachers have to deal with in the classroom. I had never had any experiences like that three and a half years, I was teaching. I already have my degree. So excited to be a part of Cameo and have a way to connect to all of. Because youre just naturally critical, you know, of yourself. And I was like, no, she was like, You got to. Temporarily unavailable. And so it was also very stressful year and so in October of 2020 Toward the end of October, I made a video there was like a sound that was trending on Tik Tok. I can feel the positive vibes coming through. We have a guest on today's podcast, but it's not just any guest, it's Tori La Rue, who happens to be my sister! Its a deeply embedded systemic problem. I cant even remember how I started subbing. But I had like a similar kind of story like that, too, which, if anybody wants to hear that its on episode three of the podcast, but I feel like so many of us have kind of that moment where like, Okay, I need to change some things. I mean, for a lot of teachers in general, theyre still learning how to do that. Anna-Thea have been educating, inspiring and empowering women for over 17 years. And so if you are somebody who was in a school environment, like that, I will make sure that you know, each day and I know sometimes its not feasible because, you know, we cover in classes, they take our planning periods or whatever, but if you are a teacher who you know, you have your planning period, and you can, you know, cut your lights out, and you know, just relax for 20 minutes, put some music on, you know, saying talk to your doctor, if you need to have like anxiety medicine, its okay, no shame in that no shame in that, you know, do what you can and do what you need to do to take care of yourself. Because if I would have took that down, those main videos kind of pushed me to I think I was at like half a million followers when I started making them. And Im like, No, Im not giving yall two weeks. So Id be trying to grade papers and, you know, do lesson plans and my daughters, like, pay attention to me, they want the attention. Being someone who is Dyslexic puts me in the perfect position to share hope and dispel myths about learning disabilities and difficulties. And it was like the funnest thing, and I added like this little chipmunk voice, and I would just like laugh and he got like, 11 million views. Thats not ok. Im super excited. Bri has made it her mission, with the platform that she has created, to bring awareness to what teachers are dealing with in schools today, and sometimes with a little humor. And that teacher stood there with me the whole time. And I almost feel like God had me, you know, go back to teaching and experience those things. There is such a guilt trip environment in education where its not necessarily a stated rule, but its understood that its frowned upon. And it was like a wake up call for me because I was like Bri, this situation that youre in is like really stressful, this is too much stress for you, you know, you cant handle this kind of stress. And as best as you can, especially in the day and time that we live in, you push back against the stuff that they asking you to do. I hope that the series gets picked up by bigger news or something that will get these teachers stories out there. Around the same time I was pregnant with my daughter and had severe preeclampsia, so I quit my TA job in March 2018. And you know, brought it to admins attention and nothing got done. So you know, instead of helping me out and moving, you know, some of those kids, they added another kid, and the 31st kid was a kid who just came back from the alternative school, and who was sped. And so when I talked to the principal, and I talked to the counselor, I was like, Hey, I asked yall not to put any more kids in his class, like, can you be moved to another class, and it was like, they, they ended up moving the kid but not until I made like a big deal about it. She uses humor as a way to relieve stress and deal with all the craziness that comes with being an educator. Isnt it so funny? And I was basically ignored. Yeah, they want that attention, and maybe they will do anything to get it. Many cite poor management, staffing shortage, lack of respect, and class management as their reasons for leaving. Because I think our listeners will want to watch that after hearing all about it. But I mean, its way more fun to be live at a q&a. [We need] a complete re-working of the entire system! And it was like a really scary experience. And I mean, Kelsey, I was like, bawling, crying. And so I went to admin, and I tried to talk to them, you know about this one particular class that I had that, you know, it doesnt matter how great a classroom management that you have, sometimes a class may have like too many behaviors too many sped kids in there. And its just like, you know, you should never be sacrificing your health for your job. Yeah, and I think were both on the same page with like, you know, we want to be able to help these teachers like through whatever it is, theyre going through, whether its they have a toxic admin environment, like some people have, or others, like, maybe its smaller problems. I know theres a lot of times where teachers feel like they dont have another option. You know, it was hard for me because Im like I love teaching. And Im like, Im gonna do it. This past school year has been really difficult. And so, you know, theres a lot of reasons why, you know, teachers cant transition out of teaching. Admin being scared of kids or trying to be their friends is never going to work out for teachers. We went back to school, you know, the pandemic, we got out in March. The state of education is really deteriorating. Like right now or as soon as youre done listening to this episode because you are going to want to follow her. Yeah, it was, it was definitely a stress reliever for me. Asleep. Because I feel like I found your profile, youd already kind of, youd grown that following. Even though the paramedics told the admin that this teacher is hurt worse than anybody. But if you, if you are a teacher who is going back next year, and you cant transition out of teaching, you got to find some ways to help you survive. You know, Im not gonna say dads dont have dad guilt. Yeah, it wasnt each individual one, it was the combination. I was thinking that if I do that its going to be in PE. I remember my account was at like, 50,000 followers, and I was like, What the heck is going on? Im really excited. And, and they, you know, they got the nurse and you know, the nurse took my blood pressure, it was like 217 over like 133. Im like a Yo, like, thats like 50,000 times worse than what you know, there was than what I was dealing with. Where I am from its said there are two teacher planets one is jupiter and another one is said to be venus (venus in perticular rules a hard working student also and later it becomes the teacher etc). And I was just it was, it was one of the scariest experiences Ive ever had. And I just was howling. I was in my classroom sick. And Ill stop, and then Ill play with her for like, 15 or 20 minutes, because kids like they want you to pay attention to them. I told my student, "Yes, I do get angry on rare occasions. Theyre tiring. But theyre not ready for the answers were going to give. Since the start of the pandemic, many educators have left the classroom or are considering leaving. Well, I left. I wanted to do the same for my students. And I was like, Im not having panic attacks like these kids are stressed me out like that, like, you know, and I kept like, just getting sick. And I was like, Heck no, like, I dont want to stand up on stage in front of people because I was scared. And I feel like God gave me a platform. That is not okay. And the crazy thing is that when I made the video, I got a community guideline violation for it because Tik Tok is just so crazy, sometimes like, and so I almost deleted it. Like it.
